Environmental Guidelines

Connecting destinations, customers, and businesses with excellence, quality, and safety is part of an operation that values sustainability. The commitment to nature conservation is reflected in initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impacts and optimizing the use of natural resources. Environmental Guidelines guide each action at São Paulo Catarina International Business Airport, promoting the continuity of the business and providing clients with the satisfaction of operating in a sustainable airport.

Carbon Neutralization and Catarina Carbon Free Project

São Paulo Catarina International Business Airport neutralizes 100% of carbon emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) and aircraft fueling from third parties (Scope 3) through the Catarina Carbon Free Project. This initiative ensures the neutralization of greenhouse gas emissions in the aviation sector, with compensation achieved through the purchase of carbon credits certified by international standards.

Clean Energy

In 2024, upon joining the Free Energy Market, São Paulo Catarina International Business Airport adopted a 100% renewable energy matrix, with traceability ensured through the Renewable Energy Certificates (REC Brazil). This initiative reinforces the commitment to energy efficiency and environmentally responsible operations. Additionally, measures have been implemented to reduce consumption, such as the use of LED lighting throughout the operation, including the newly inaugurated taxiway system, and the use of state-of-the-art 100% electric tugs, consolidating increasingly efficient and sustainable practices.

Waste Management: Zero Landfill

São Paulo Catarina International Business Airport adopts advanced waste management practices, ensuring 100% diversion of materials from landfills. A structured segregation and storage process is implemented across the operation, with periodic training to maximize material recovery and reinforce awareness among employees and partners. To prevent resource waste and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, destinations such as recycling, co-processing, production of fuel from waste, and the reuse of aviation fuel for paint manufacturing are adopted. These initiatives strengthen the commitment to a circular economy and environmentally responsible operations.

Water Resource Management

São Paulo Catarina International Business Airport has implemented efficient water management practices, including the installation of individualized water meters in all hangars and automated monitoring through IoT technology. This innovation allows for real-time consumption monitoring, facilitating the identification of waste and optimization of water usage, as well as enabling quick decisions to reduce consumption and improve efficiency. Additionally, complementary measures have been adopted, such as faucets with aerator sensors, dual flush toilets, low consumption floor washers, dry cleaning of aircraft, and rainwater harvesting with a dedicated water truck for irrigating green areas. At the Catarina Aviation Show 2023 and 2024 events, water consumption was measured using a specific water meter, and consumption was offset through support for Projetos Nascentes and De Olho nos Rios, reinforcing the commitment to preserving water resources.

Continuous Noise Monitoring

São Paulo Catarina International Business Airport conducts continuous noise monitoring at strategic points near the runway thresholds to identify, measure, and manage noise levels, ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory standards. The Specific Noise Zoning Plan (PEZR) is a technical document that defines the areas of noise impact and establishes guidelines to ensure harmonious coexistence between airport operations and the surrounding community. This plan is periodically updated to account for increased aircraft movements, with the latest update carried out in 2022.

Air Quality and Atmospheric Emissions

Annually, São Paulo Catarina International Business Airport updates the Atmospheric Emissions Study (EEA) in accordance with the Air Quality Monitoring Program, taking into account airport operations. The study evaluates the specific emissions from aircraft, ensuring an accurate diagnosis and contributing to more effective air quality management. Additionally, periodic monitoring of black smoke in diesel-powered vehicles and equipment is conducted, ensuring compliance with environmental standards.

Socioenvironmental Education

Socio-environmental education is a fundamental pillar of the management. All employees are integrated into environmental practices during the credentialing process and participate in periodic training specific to their activities. Additionally, the commitment is reinforced through continuous internal communication, ensuring that everyone stays informed and engaged. A constant dialogue is also maintained with neighboring condominiums and businesses, promoting alignment and collaborative actions that strengthen regional sustainability and harmonious coexistence with the community.

Biodiversity – Partnership with Onçafari Project and Integrated Wildlife Management and Compensatory Planting

The airport reinforces its commitment to biodiversity conservation through integrated management, which includes compensatory planting and wildlife protection, ensuring environmental balance and the preservation of local ecosystems. In partnership with Onçafari Project, continuous monitoring of large carnivores is conducted, with an emphasis on the puma (also known as cougar or mountain lion), a species that inhabits the over 200 hectares of reforestation maintained by the airport. Additionally, actions dedicated to wildlife conservation are promoted, along with active communication with surrounding businesses, aiming to implement measures that ensure the safety of both wildlife and the community.
